Eleven non-conference matches later, Dartmouth volleyball is gearing up to open Ivy League play on Saturday when it plays host to Harvard. This is the first of two matches the two teams will play against each other in the next month, as the Crimson will welcome the Big Green to Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Oct. 24.
Home Opener – After playing three consecutive road tournaments to start the 2014 season, the Green and White opened at home on Tuesday by defeating Bryant in straight sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-20). Leading the team in kills were junior Kaira Lujan and sophomore Molly Kornfeind, who both recorded eight, while junior Paige Caridi totaled 13 digs. Sophomore Stacey Benton had a team-high 28 assists and was second with 10 digs.
So Far in the Ivy League … - Although none of the Ivy League teams have opened conference play yet, Dartmouth is currently sitting atop the standings with a .818 winning percentage. The Big Green is also first in blocks (89), while coming in second in assists (463), kills (487), aces (51) and digs (579).
Scouting the Crimson – Harvard kicked off its campaign with victories over Santa Clara and Central Connecticut before suffering its only two losses so far this season to Delaware and North Carolina State. The Crimson claimed their fifth straight victory on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over New Hampshire.
Last time vs. Harvard – Saturday's match marks the 65th all-time meeting between the two Ancient Eight teams. Almost a year ago, the Big Green handed the Crimson a 3-2 loss, winning the first two sets (25-23, 25-17), falling in the next two (21-25, 24-26), and wrapping the match up with a 15-10 victory in the final set. Dartmouth has won each of its last three home matches against Harvard, going to five sets every time.
Next up for Dartmouth – With 13 conference contests left on its schedule, Dartmouth will host back-to-back matches, facing Brown at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, and Yale at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.
