THIS WEEKEND
After two weekends of home play, the Dartmouth volleyball team will head to New York to face Cornell and Columbia.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green had a huge 2-0 weekend over Homecoming. On Friday, they defeated Yale for the first time since the 2009 season and handed the Bulldogs their first Ivy League loss of 2015 in four sets (29-27, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15). The following day, Dartmouth took down Brown, 3-0 (30-28, 25-17, 25-18). Against Yale, Paige Caridi and Emily Astarita ended the night with double-doubles. Caridi had 16 kills and 14 digs and Astarita had 20 kills and 13 digs. On Saturday, Caridi led both teams with 16 kills, while Kayden Cook had 21 assists and Zoe Leonard had 18 digs. Kaira Lujan was named the dartmouthsports.com female Athlete of the Week, totaling 17 kills, one ace, five dig, seven block assists and eight points throughout the weekend, delivering the final kill to end the match against the Bears. Dartmouth is now tied for first in the league with defending champion Harvard.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is on a seven-match losing streak, its last victory occurring against Binghamton on Sept. 18. Most recently, the Big Red fell to Penn, 3-1, and Princeton, 3-0. Cornell put up a fight against Yale and had to go to five sets, but ultimately fell to the Bulldogs.
LAST SEASON AGAINST CORNELL
Last season, Dartmouth went 1-1 against the Big Red, winning in straight sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) at home early in the season, but dropping a 3-1 decision (25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 21-25) less than a month later on the road.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia is 2-3 so far in Ivy season after defeating Cornell (3-1) and Penn (3-1) and falling to Yale (3-1), Brown (3-2) and Princeton (3-0) and is tied with Princeton and Brown for fifth in the conference.
LAST SEASON AGAINST COLUMBIA
The Big Green went 0-2 against the Lions in 2014, falling 3-1 (25-18, 26-28, 18-25, 21-25) in October and 3-0 (20-25, 18-25, 19-25) at home in November.
IVY LEAGUE STATISTICS
A handful of Big Green players are currently faring well in the conference in a number of categories: Astarita is first in kills (216) and kills per set (4.08), Kaira Lujan is second in hitting percentage (.347) and Leonard is second in aces (17). Dartmouth also leads all programs in kills (699) and assists (663).
SEEING DOUBLE
So far this season, five Big Green players have recorded double-doubles, accumulating double digits in two of the five statistical categories.
