THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth volleyball will be on the road this weekend, making a stop in New Jersey to face Princeton on Friday before moving on to Philly to take on Penn the following day.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green fell to Harvard in straight sets (19-25, 17-25, 19-25) at Leede Arena last Friday. The Crimson ended the home team's five-match winning streak that had encompassed the entire month of October. The two teams are now tied for first in the Ivy League. Sierra Lyle and Emily Astarita led the team with eight kills apiece, while both Kayden Cook and Stacey Benton ended the night with 13 assists. Zoe Leonard had 10 digs.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Although Princeton has a winning record, it sits in the middle of the league standings with a 4-4 mark. The Tigers opened conference play with three straight losses to Penn, Harvard and Dartmouth, but a 3-0 victory over Columbia turned things around, and Princeton would go on to defeat Cornell and Brown before being saddled with a 3-0 loss to Yale. The Tigers have had a better start to the second rotation of Ivy action, taking down Penn last weekend.
LAST TIME AGAINST PRINCETON
On Oct. 3, the Green defeated the Tigers, 3-1, (20-25, 27-25, 25-14, 25-17), fighting back after a dropped first set to win the remaining three. Paige Caridi had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Astarita led both Ancient Eight programs with 13 kills. Leonard had 15 digs to lead Dartmouth and Benton had 37 assists.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn has been struggling as of late, dropping four straight matches to Columbia, Yale, Brown and Princeton to enter this weekend winless since an Oct. 9 victory over Cornell.
LAST TIME AGAINST PENN
The weekend after defeating Harvard to open Ivy League play, the Big Green dropped a 3-0 decision (18-25, 17-25, 12-25) to the Quakers at home. Astarita led both teams with 11 kills, while Benton had 19 of the team's 22 assists.
IVY LEAGUE STATISTICS
A handful of Big Green players are currently faring well in the conference in a number of categories: Astarita is first in kills (259) and kills per set (3.98), Zoe Leonard is second in aces (22), Kaira Lujan is fifth in hitting percentage (.308), and Kayden Cook and Stacey Benton are fifth and sixth in assists with 395 and 324, respectively. Dartmouth also leads all programs in kills (864) and assists (822).
SEEING DOUBLE
So far this season, five Big Green players have recorded double-doubles, accumulating double digits in two of the five statistical categories.
