THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's soccer team will hit the road for an Ivy League contest in New Haven this weekend, taking on Yale Saturday at 4 p.m live on ESPN3.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green overcame a one-goal deficit in the final minute of regulation Tuesday night at home against Vermont, scoring twice in a 66-second span to defeat their regional rivals. Sophomores Matt Danilack and Matt Greer were credited with the goals that came in the 88th and 90th minutes, respectively, to sink the Catamounts.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale is struggling in 2015, no way around it. The Bulldogs have picked up just one win in their first nine games of the fall. That victory came against their Southern Connecticut rival Quinnipiac, 3-2, on Sept. 19, but has been followed by four straight losses. The team has just nine goals in their nine games and have been shutout three times already. Freshman Kyle Kenagy has amassed a third of the Elis' goals this season and leads the team in scoring with six points. The goalkeeping duties have been split between rookie Kess Schipper, who has the only win, and junior Ryan Simpson, who has slightly better numbers.
AGAINST YALE
In last season's meeting in Hanover on Oct. 11, 2014, then-freshman Jonathan Nierenberg scored a pair of second-half goals as the Big Green came away with a 4-1 win. The victory pushed Dartmouth's unbeaten streak to eight (6-0-2), while keeping Yale out of the win column once again as the Bulldogs dropped to 0-8-2 with the loss that day. Dartmouth outshot Yale, 14-3, and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
WHERE ARE WE?
Prior to Tuesday's last-minute win against the Catamounts, Dartmouth was 27th in the most recent NCAA Men's Soccer RPI rankings. RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. RPI is a tool used in selecting and seeding teams for the NCAA Tournament. The Big Green are the highest ranked Ivy League team at this point and are 1-1-0 against teams ranked above them (No. 10 Seattle/L & No. 14 Hofstra/W).
WE'RE NO. 2!
Dartmouth's 13 goals scored are just one behind Princeton — a team that was shutout in Hanover last Saturday — for the lead amongst Ivy teams. The seven goals allowed is just two more than Columbia's league-leading five in one fewer game played than the Green.
13 FROM 10
With Greer getting on the board against UVM, Dartmouth now has registered 13 goals from 10 different players this season. Only Eduvie Ikoba, Amadu Kunateh and Danilack have bulged the onion bag more than once this fall with Danilack's second sparking the late-game comeback.
HICKOK HOPS BACK IN
Having not played since Sept. 11 in a 1-0 home loss to Colgate, goalkeeper James Hickock didn't skip a beat in returning to the starting lineup against Vermont. The keeper made a season-high five saves, allowed just his second goal of the season and picked up the win — also his second of the year.
