TUESDAY'S GAME
The 24th-ranked Dartmouth men's soccer team hosts Northeastern in its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday at Burnham Field.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off a thrilling 1-0 road victory over Harvard in overtime on Saturday. In the 98th minute, off a Justin Donawa corner kick, freshman Amadu Kunateh headed the ball past the Crimson netminder to give Dartmouth the important win. Between the pipes, goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland was perfect, making seven saves and recording his seventh shutout of the year.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northeastern has won just two of its last six games and is coming off 1-0 losses to No. 5 North Carolina and Drexel. The Huskies' offense is led by their leading scorer Frantzdy Pierrot, who has five goals and two assists for 12 points. In goal, Dylan Faber and Jonathan Thuresson share netminding duties. Faber has nine stops on the 32 shots he's faced, while Thuresson who sees the bulk of the action, has made 48 saves and recorded two shutouts.
LAST TIME AGAINST NORTHEASTERN
On Sept. 6, 2009, the 10th-ranked Big Green shutout Northeastern 1-0 at Burnham Field. Dartmouth picked up the early lead in the fifth minute when Andrew Olsen fired a hard shot from 45 yards out that just made it over the head of the Huskies' keeper. The Big Green would not relinquish the lead, giving Sean Donovan a shutout in his first collegiate start.
THE RACE FOR FIRST PLACE
With the 1-0 victory over Harvard, Dartmouth cemented its place atop the Ivy League standings at 5-0-0. Right behind the Big Green is a surging Brown team, who has won three straight. The Bears are currently 3-1-1 in conference play, while Columbia and Harvard are tied for third with a 3-2-0 record in the league.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
For the first time this season, Dartmouth cracked the top-25 in the NSCAA Coaches poll. The Green are ranked 24th in the nation and are the only ranked Ancient Eight team.
SPREADING THE BALL AROUND
Three Dartmouth players lead the team in goals. Eduvie Ikoba, Amadu Kunateh and Matt Danilack have each found the back of the net three times, while six others have scored at least once this season. Sophomore Matt Greer has also played an important role for the Big Green offensively, as he leads the Ivy League with five assists.
