THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's soccer team will play a pair of games this weekend against two non-conference opponents. Colgate makes the trip to Hanover for a Friday night tilt, before the Big Green travel to Albany for a Sunday matinee with the Great Danes.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth enjoyed its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in Hanover with a 1-0 double-overtime win against Holy Cross. Freshman Amadu Kunateh found himself in the right place at the right time to score the golden goal less than two minutes into the second OT frame.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate visits the Upper Valley sporting a 1-1-1 overall record. Friday marks just the second road game of the season for the Raiders, who played to a 1-1 tie against Northwestern on Aug. 30 in Chicago. A loss to Rutgers (2-1) and a win against UC Riverside (2-1) marked the start of the home campaign for the team in their most recent outings last weekend. Ethan Kutler has two of Colgate's four goals this season, while also adding an assist to lead the squad with five points. Ricky Brown has been the goalie of record in all three games and boasts a 1.23 goals against mark and a .692 save percentage.
AGAINST COLGATE
Friday marks the 12th meeting all-time between the two teams dating back seven decades. The first meeting took place on September 30, 1944 in Hanover, as Dartmouth defeated the Raiders, 8-1. After the 1949 season, both teams did not meet again until 2006, a scoreless draw. Since re-booting the series nine seasons ago, the Green and White are 4-0-1 against their counterparts from Hamilton.
SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES
After a season-opening loss to Villanova (3-0) on Aug. 28, Albany has won its last two games against Rhode Island (1-0) and at George Mason (2-0). Before Dartmouth makes the trip to New York's Capital District, the Great Danes will host UMass on Thursday night at home as part of their three-game homestand. The team has just three goals this season, but Leo Melgar can claim two of them for a team-leading four points. Goalkeeper Eric Orologio is 2-0-0 this season with consecutive shutouts against the Rams and Patriots.
AGAINST ALBANY
Dartmouth and Albany have played one another just once before, a Sept. 28, 2013 contest at Burnham Field which the Big Green won 2-1 in front of a near-capacity crowd.
PERFECT TIMING
Kunateh picked the perfect time to find the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career, scoring in the 102nd minute against the Crusaders. It was the first goal of the season for the Green who had played to a scoreless draw against UConn in the opener. For his efforts, Kunateh was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday.
CLEAN SHEETS
Two games, two goalkeepers, two shutouts. That's the early line on Dartmouth's goalkeepers. After Stefan Cleveland blanked the Huskies in the opener with five saves, James Hickok got the start against Holy Cross where his one save helped him earn his fourth career shutout.
EARLY SUCCESS UNDER RILEY
For the second time in three years under head coach Chad Riley, Dartmouth is unbeaten through two games of the season. During his first season in 2013, Riley began 4-0-4, the program's best start since the 1978 season, when the team started 6-0-2.
