THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth volleyball team will head to Michigan for the Oakland Tournament, which is the Big Green's final invitational of the season. Dartmouth will face Western Michigan at 2 p.m. on Friday and will double up the following day, taking on Eastern Illinois at 12 p.m. and the host Golden Grizzlies at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Green had a huge weekend at the Dartmouth Tournament, going 2-0 following 3-1 defeats of both WVU (25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 31-29) and UConn (25-19, 11-25, 25-22, 25-22). At the conclusion of the tournament, Kayden Cook was named All-Tournament MVP for amassing five kills, 92 assists, one service ace, 14 digs and two block assists. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team were Kaira Lujan (13 kills, nine BA) and Allison Brady (12 kills, four digs, five BA).
IVY LEAGUE TOP 5 PLAYS OF THE WEEK
With the Big Green leading UConn, 2-1, and Dartmouth sitting at match point, Cook perfectly set up Brady, who fired the ball over the net to give the home team its second victory of the weekend and hand the Huskies just their second loss of the season. Brady's kill was featured as No. 5 on the Ivy League's Top 5 Plays of the Week a few days later. Watch the clip here.
SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN
The Broncos are working their way through the beginning of a very tough schedule, winning just two of their 11 matches so far. This past weekend, Western Michigan suffered 3-0 losses to Pittsburgh and No. 24 Michigan before picking up a 3-1 victory over South Carolina to end the Michigan Challenge.
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS
The Panthers opened 2015 by claiming the IPFW Mastodon Invitational with wins over Illinois-Chicago, Central Michigan and the host. The following weekend, Eastern Illinois was runner-up at the DePaul Blue Demon Invitational after defeating Evansville and Toledo and falling to the host. The Panthers' most recent tournament appearance, the Dayton Flyer Invitational, was a bit tougher, as they went 0-3 after falling to Cleveland State, Dayton and Baylor.
SCOUTING OAKLAND
The host of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational has had a rocky start to its season, winning just one of its first six matches, but last weekend was better. At the LBSU/LMU Invitational, Oakland went 2-2, defeating Stony Brook and Central Arkansas while falling to Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount.
LINDSEY AND CO.
Having led the Big Green since the 2010-11 season, head coach Erin Lindsey has compiled a record of 42-58 and a 17-39 Ivy League mark through her four years at the helm. Joining her on the bench are first-year assistants Jon Haruguchi and Aylene Ilkson.
CAPTAINS
The 20-player squad, which is made up of 14 returnees and six freshmen, are led by captains Paige Caridi, Kayden Cook and Kaira Lujan, who are all entering their final year on the court. So far this season, Caridi is second on the team in kills (53) and digs (33), Cook is first in assists (108) and Lujan is third in kills (29) and second in total blocks (9).
FRESH FACES
Joining the Big Green to start their collegiate careers are Samantha Bozoian, Jordan Cornwell, Zoe Leonard, Sierra Lyle, Catherine Shepherd and Lida Vandermeer.
