THIS WEEKEND
After three consecutive weekends of tournaments and some pretty big wins over teams such as UConn and WVU, the Dartmouth volleyball team will settle into dual match mode, heading to Rhode Island to face Bryant at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
LAST TIME OUT
This past weekend, the Big Green took part in the Oakland Tournament, returning to Hanover with a slightly deceiving 1-2 record. On the first day of the invite, Dartmouth fell to Western Michigan, 3-2, narrowly falling in the first (23-25) and third sets (22-25) and claiming the second (25-17) and fourth (25-16), dropping the deciding fifth set, 15-9. To open the second day of the tournament, the Green had an exciting 3-1 victory over an aggressive Eastern Illinois, where the winning team was never more than five points ahead (25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22). Later that day, Dartmouth fell to the host, 3-1, winning the second set by an impressive 31-29 margin. Emily Astarita was named to the All-Tournament Team at the end of the weekend, amassing 61 kills, four aces, 27 digs, one assist, one block solo and seven block assists.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant has had a pretty good start to its campaign, sporting a record of 7-8 almost halfway through its season. The Bulldogs opened 2015 with four straight wins, taking down Quinnipiac, Holy Cross and Iona, all by scores of 3-1, before handing Providence a 3-0 loss a few days later. From there, they lost five straight, but picked up three victories against Bucknell, La Salle and Hartford to attempt to counteract the losses. Most recently, Bryant suffered three more losses, falling to No. 23 Minnesota, Charleston and Sam Houston State at the College of Charleston Invitational.
LAST TIME AGAINST BRYANT
On Sept. 24, 2014, the Big Green hosted the Bulldogs and defeated the opponent in straight sets, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-20. Leading Dartmouth in kills were Molly Kornfeind and Kaira Lujan, who both ended the match with eight, while Paige Caridi had 13 digs. Stacey Benton recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs.
LINDSEY AND CO.
Having led the Big Green since the 2010-11 season, head coach Erin Lindsey has compiled a record of 42-58 and a 17-39 Ivy League mark through her four years at the helm. Joining her on the bench are first-year assistants Jon Haruguchi and Aylene Ilkson.
CAPTAINS
The 20-player squad, which is made up of 14 returnees and six freshmen, are led by captains Paige Caridi, Kayden Cook and Kaira Lujan, who are all entering their final year on the court. So far this season, Caridi is second on the team in kills (97) and digs (66), Cook is first in assists (266) and Lujan is third in kills (57) and second in total blocks (16).
FRESH FACES
Joining the Big Green to start their collegiate careers are Samantha Bozoian, Jordan Cornwell, Zoe Leonard, Sierra Lyle, Catherine Shepherd and Lida Vandermeer.
