THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth volleyball team will play just one game this weekend, opening Ivy League play on the road against Harvard on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green played their final non-conference match on Tuesday, falling to Bryant, 3-1, on the road (30-28, 19-25, 19-25, 20-25). Emily Astarita led both teams with 21 kills, while Stacey Benton recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs and Jordan Cornwell had 14 digs.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
After winning its first match of 2015 against Rutgers, Harvard dropped five straight before countering those losses with victories over UNH, UConn and Northeastern, the last two matches coming in last weekend's New England Challenge that was hosted by the Crimson. Harvard was not able to get that third win and go undefeated for the weekend, dropping its final match to Boston College, 3-2. Corinne Bain and Christina Cornelius were named to the New England Challenge All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the invite.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
Last season, the Big Green went 1-1 against the Crimson, opening conference play at home on Sept. 27, 2014 with a 3-1 victory (27-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21) before falling 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 18-25) on the road less than a month later. Harvard holds a 46-20 advantage over Dartmouth.
LINDSEY AND CO.
Having led the Big Green since the 2010-11 season, head coach Erin Lindsey has compiled a record of 42-58 and a 17-39 Ivy League mark through her four years at the helm. Joining her on the bench are first-year assistants Jon Haruguchi and Aylene Ilkson.
CAPTAINS
The 20-player squad, which is made up of 14 returnees and six freshmen, are led by captains Paige Caridi, Kayden Cook and Kaira Lujan, who are all entering their final year on the court. So far this season, Caridi is second on the team in kills (106) and digs (74), Cook is first in assists (269) and Lujan is third in kills (57) and third in total blocks (16).
FRESH FACES
Joining the Big Green to start their collegiate careers are Samantha Bozoian, Jordan Cornwell, Zoe Leonard, Sierra Lyle, Catherine Shepherd and Lida Vandermeer.
