LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green swept Clarkson and No. 18 St. Lawrence at home last weekend. The two victories helped Dartmouth improve to 5-1-0 since the start of January with wins in each of its last three games.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior forward Jack Barre was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for his role in the two wins. Barre registered a career-high three assists in the 5-2 triumph against Clarkson, before scoring the game winner the following evening against the Saints and adding a helper on the insurance marker in the final seconds. He led all ECAC players in points (5), assists (4) and plus/minus (+4) over the course of the week. The Connecticut native was also tabbed as the DartmouthSports.com Male Athlete of the Week.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell comes into the weekend with an 11-3-3 record and boasts the eighth-best winning percentage in the country at .735. Ranked 10th in the nation by the latest USCHO poll, the Big Red dropped two spots following last weekend's 1-0 loss at RPI and 3-3- tie at Union. Leading the team in assists (10) and points (16) is junior Jeff Kubiak (no relation to Broncos' head coach Gary Kubiak). In goal is junior Mitch Gilliam whose brother Josh is a Dartmouth Class of 2010. Mitch has been outstanding all season, posting a 1.79 goals against average in addition to a .933 save percentage, both ranking among the best in the country.
AGAINST CORNELL
Dartmouth swept the Red last season, including a 5-2 win in Ithaca on Jan. 24. The Big Green are 3-0-1 against their rivals from Cornell in the last two seasons with a pair of wins in Lynah Rink. Last season's sweep was the first for Dartmouth against Cornell since the 2006-07 season.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Picked to finish fifth in the preseason polls by both the media and coaches, Colgate is struggling right now with a 7-14-2 overall mark and a 3-6-2 record in ECAC Hockey play that has them eighth in the standings. Tyson Spink has been a bright spot, though, leading the Raiders in goals (10), assists (15) and points (25) through 23 games. His twin brother Tylor is second in scoring with a 5-14-19 line. In goal, junior Charlie Finn has also struggled (3.54 GAA / .889 S%), while Zac Hamilton turned aside 37 in a 2-2 tie with Rensselaer on Saturday night in Troy, while earning his first career win at Maine the previous Saturday night.
AGAINST COLGATE
Where Dartmouth has found success against Cornell the past two seasons, the Raiders seem to be the Big Green's Achilles Heel. Dartmouth is 0-5-1 against Colgate since the start of the 2013-14 campaign, including a hard-fought 2-0 series defeat at the hands of the Raiders in last season's ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals in Hamilton. The two teams actually tied for fourth in the conference standings, but Colgate got the seed, bye and home-ice in the second round thanks to its win in Hanover last year.
THAT'S A LOT OF FIRST GOALS
Against Clarkson, three sophomores all notched their first career goals. Tim Shoup and Kevin Neiley each scored goals in the first period, tallies that came just 18 seconds apart. River Rymsha added his first marker on a one-timer in the second, while Neiley would deposit another shot in the back of the net in the third period for his first two-goal game as well.
CHUCK THE GOALIE
No other goalie has as many wins since the start of 2016 as Charles Grant's five. In that time, Grant ranks in the top-10 in both save percentage (.952, 8th) and goals against average (1.32, 7th), while also notching a shutout. This weekend, the senior went 2-0-0 with 62 saves against the Golden Knights and Saints. He stopped a season-high 37 against SLU on Saturday, including 16 in the third period alone with eight of those coming on late power-play bids by the Saints.
HES AND HARTS
Carl Hesler and Josh Hartley each put together three-point weekends at Thompson against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Hartley scored the eventual game winner on Friday night, while picking up his first two-assist night against the Saints on Saturday. Hesler had two helpers in the first game of the weekend, before his crucial defensive-zone faceoff win in the final seconds eventually led to Brad Schierhorn's empty-netter and his third assist.
THAT'S KIND OF WEIRD
Dartmouth had been 0-6-0 this season when an opponent had notched a power-play goal. That streak came to an end Friday with the Big Green picking up the 'W' despite Clarkson's second-period score with the man-advantage. The Big Green also picked up four points in the standings even though they had been outshot in both games. It was also the first time this season they won a game when committing more penalties than their opponent (1-5-0).
GET TO FOUR! SIMPLE, RIGHT?
The Green and White are 5-0-0 this season when scoring four or more goals. Four of those instances have come this month alone with the only exception a 7-3 home win against Brown on Nov. 6.
WINNERS
Jack Barre and Brett Patterson are now tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals each this season. Barre's second of the season came on a broken play in the second period against St. Lawrence to give the home team a 3-1 edge at that point. Dartmouth is 5-0-0 this season when Pattterson scores and 5-1-0 when Barre nets one.
POLLS? THAT'S NEAT…
Thanks to the team's 5-1-0 run since the start of the month, Dartmouth is garnering votes in the USCHO national poll for the first time since the start of the season. More importantly, the Green are 19th in the Pairwise Rankings (the system used to determine the field for the NCAA Tournament) despite just a .500 record, shedding light on the importance of Dartmouth's incredibly difficult strength of schedule so far this year.
