HANOVER, N.H. — The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its Football Teams of the Year along with the recipients of the 2015 Lambert Meadowlands Awards on Wednesday with Dartmouth earning a share of the Lambert Meadowlands Award. The award, which is bestowed upon the top football team in the Eastern region of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), was split between the three teams that tied for the Ivy League title — Dartmouth, Harvard and Penn. The trio are the first Ivy League schools to earn the honor since Penn took it home in 1986.
The Big Green earned its first Ivy League crown in 19 years by posting a 6-1 record in conference plays (9-1 overall) with their lone loss coming by a single point on the road in the final minute of the game at Harvard. But Dartmouth's convincing 41-20 victory over the Quakers earlier in the year allowed the Green to finish in the first three-way tie atop the Ivy League standings in 34 years.
Dartmouth terrorized opponents on defense, leading the FCS in fewest points allowed (10.1), most turnovers gained (32) and red zone defense. In addition, the Big Green finished among the top five in turnover margin (+1.2, 2nd), passes intercepted per game (1.8, 2nd), rush defense (86.5, 3rd), team passing efficiency defense (92.72, 3rd) and total defense (277.7 yards allowed per game, 4th).
A total of 17 players earned 18 All-Ivy honors, including eight first-teamers, six of which were on defense. Senior linebacker
Will McNamara was a finalist for the Bushnell Cup Defensive Player of the Year and was joined on the All-New England FCS Team by three other seniors — cornerback
Vernon Harris, defensive lineman
A.J. Zuttah and center
Jacob Flores. Meanwhile, Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach
Buddy Teevens was named the Regional Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association as well as the New England Football Writers' Association.
In the final STATS and coaches' polls, Dartmouth finished 23rd in both for its first national ranking at the end of a season since 1996.
