SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth women's basketball team opens up conference play with Ivy League foe Harvard in the first showdown at Leede Arena in the new year.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off a 46-39 road victory over NJIT on Dec. 31 in their final non-conference game of the season. Despite a late Highlanders rally that included a 7-0 run in the game's final minutes, Dartmouth held on due to a strong defensive presence throughout most of the contest. The Big Green held NJIT's leading point scorer to nine points and held the team to just six points total in the first and third quarters.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard is 2-5 in its last seven games and 5-7 on the season thus far. The Crimson offense is led by its two seniors, AnnMarie Healy and Shilpa Tummala. Healy averages 14.4 points per game, while Tummala pours in 13.5. Tummala is also second in the Ancient Eight in three-point percentage shooting 43.7. The scoring duo also shoots 47 percent from the field. As a team Harvard averages 38.2 boards a game for sixth in the conference.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
Last year Dartmouth split the season series with Harvard, defeating the Crimson 76-61 in Cambridge before falling 75-69 most recently on Jan. 24, 2015. In that game, Harvard erased a 14-point second half deficit to take it first lead of the contest with one minute remaining. Junior Fanni Szabo led the Big Green with 25 points, while senior Lakin Roland added 12 points. The Crimson saw major contributions from their starting lineup as all five starters finished the night in double figures.
CLUB 1,000
On Dec. 31 in Dartmouth's victory over NJIT, Roland scored the 1,000th point of her career. Roland entered the game with 995 career points and at the 5:30 mark of the first quarter she hit a jumper near the free throw line for the milestone basket.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
Roland is having quite the final season in Hanover. She currently leads the Ivy League in total rebounds (127) and is second behind Yale's Nyasha Sarju in total points (230).
STARTING STRONG
The Big Green have been solid in the first quarter of games this season, outscoring their opponents 225-183.
SUCCESS BEHIND THE ARC
Dartmouth has found some success this season from three-point range. As a team, the Big Green shoot .336 from behind the arc compared to their opponents .325. Sophomore Kate Letkewicz leads the team, draining 31 of 84 from three-point range.
