THIS WEEK'S GAMES
The Dartmouth women's basketball team hits the road for four consecutive contests, heading to Virginia for games against Old Dominion and William & Mary.
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion heads into Wednesday's contest having won two games on the young season. Most recently the Monarchs defeated North Carolina Central 83-52 at 'The Ted.' ODU head coach, Karen Barefoot enters her sixth season at the helm of a program that has a history in the NCAA tournament after the Monarchs won the 1985 National Championship. This year's squad has found success from the field, shooting .449, good for second in 14-member Conference USA.
LAST TIME AGAINST ODU
On Dec. 2, 2012, the Big Green fell to the Monarchs 73-59 in Virginia. Dartmouth was trailing, 63-51, with 5:56 left in the game and managed to get the deficit down to six points, but couldn't close the gap further. Co-captains Nicola Zimmer and Faziah Steen led the Big Green offense with 17 and 16 points, respectively while Abbey Schmitt picked up 11 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
William & Mary is off to a decent start to the 2016-17 campaign, having won three consecutive games after dropping the season-opener to St. John's. The Tribe most recently defeated South Carolina Upstate, 49-46 and will play Delaware State on Nov. 28. William & Mary also defeated instate-rival Old Dominion 69-58 in Norfolk. As a team, the Tribe average 60.5 point per game and are led by Marlena Tremba, who's poured in 12.3 per game in four games.
LAST TIME AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY
On Dec. 28, 2000, the Big Green fell to the Tribe, 79-66 in Leede Arena. William & Mary took a 34-29 lead at the half en route to the 13-point victory.
VIRGINIA CONNECTION
Dartmouth junior Amber Mixon hails from Woodbridge, Virginia which is only 131 miles from the the Tribe's campus. Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach, Belle Koclanes is also very familiar with the commonwealth after she attended Richmond, earning her BA in 2002. Koclanes also spent three seasons on the staff at Old Dominion for legendary coach Wendy Larry. During her time in Norfolk, the Monarchs recorded a 56-38 overall record, including a 39-15 mark in CAA play and earned two berths in the WNIT.
NOT COLD AS ICE
Sophomore Isalys “Ice” Quiñones has performed well for the Big Green in her new role as a starter. The 6-3 forward has started all four games this season and recorded her first career double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in Dartmouth's, 61-51, win to open the season. She averages 8.3 points and seven rebounds per game.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS
The Big Green's lone senior, Fanni Szabo has been climbing on some of Dartmouth's all-time records' lists. With 1,057 career points, Szabo is in sole possession of 16th in the all-time scoring category. She is also 6th in both three-point field goals made and attempted.
