Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Michael Danielak, Jr., Mt. Prospect, Ill., RHP, Baseball
Junior Michael Danielak had not started a game on the mound since the 2014 season, having sat out all of last year with an injury. The native of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, finally got his opportunity against Maine on March 20 and absolutely dazzled with a nine-inning, complete game, 4-2 victory while striking out a career-high nine batters. The right-hander threw 116 pitches and surrendered just one earned run on seven hits without issuing a walk. Combining that start with his two relief appearances this season, Danielak boasts a minuscule 1.17 ERA over 15.1 innings with 13 punchouts and just two walks while the opposition has hit a paltry .185 against him.
Katie McEachern, Sr., San Diego, Calif., SS, Softball
Senior Katie McEachern played a huge role in Dartmouth's success over the weekend in Santa Clara. In a 7-2 victory over Iona on Friday, McEachern hit her first double of the season. On Saturday against Iona, McEachern went 1-for-2 with two RBIs in a 6-3 win over the Gaels. She followed that performance up going 3-for-4 with a triple in the Big Green's dominant 11-1 victory over Santa Clara. Finally, McEachern hit her fourth homer of the season in a 6-3 win over CSU Bakersfield on Sunday, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
