HANOVER, N.H. – No. 49 Dartmouth women's tennis will close the 2016 season on Saturday, hosting No. 58 Harvard at 2 p.m.
The Big Green (12-6, 3-3 Ivy League) moved up another five spots in the latest ITA National Rankings following a pair of wins over the weekend. On Friday, Dartmouth had a 5-2 victory over Brown, coming out on top in all but one of the three-set singles matches it played that afternoon. The following day against Yale, the Green came back from a dropped doubles point to win four singles matches in a row to end the day with a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs. Junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis – who have been ranked every week since the start of the season in January – are now No. 21 in the country.
The Crimson (12-10, 2-4 Ivy League) split over the weekend, defeating Yale by a score of 6-1 on the road before falling to Brown, 4-3, at its last home match of the year. Annika Ringblom and Sabrina Xiong are a doubles force to be reckoned with, going 10-5 together first at the No. 2 position before moving to No. 1 a few weeks into the season.
At lot can change in the Ivy standings this weekend, as four teams still have one match to go. Dartmouth is currently sitting in fifth place and is followed by Harvard, Brown (2-4) and Yale (2-4), which are all tied for sixth. With a win, the Green would improve to 4-3 and would join Columbia, Penn and Cornell in a tie for second place, sitting behind Princeton, which won the title with a 5-2 mark.
