EUGENE, Ore. – Dartmouth alums Adam Nelson '97 and Ben True '08 competed at the 2016 U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials Friday night at Oregon's Hayward Field.
Nelson was looking to secure a fourth Olympic berth in the shot put, but came up just short as he finished seventh in the final. The 2004 Gold Medalist in the event, Nelson's throw of 66-2.25/20.17 on his first attempt of the final stood up his best, fouling on the next five throws. He was ninth in the qualifying rounds earlier in the day to earn a spot in the evening's final.
In the 10,000m, True — running for Team Saucony — was 11th in an extremely competitive field, crossing in 29:04.21.
True still has a shot at Rio and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games as he runs in the preliminaries of the 5,000m on Monday. The final of the 5,000m is Saturday, July 9.
