SATURDAY'S GAME
This weekend the Dartmouth women's basketball team will host border rival Maine, on Saturday afternoon, to end a two-game homestand.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine is coming off a mid-week win over Maine Maritime, 89-49, where sophomore Blanca Millan sunk a career-high six three-point buckets, contributing to her game-high 24 points. Millan is averaging a team-best 18.1 points per game, has scored in double-digits eight times this season and has scored more than 20 points in four games so far. Julie Brosseau and Tanesha Sutton round out the top three scorers for the Black Bears, with Brosseau posting 13.9 points per game and Sutton averaging 11.2. Maine has struggled on the road with an 0-3 record for away games, losing to Miami, Toledo and No. 8 Ohio State.
LAST TIME AGAINST MAINE
Last December, the Big Green traveled to Orono, Maine to take on the Black Bears, and although Andi Norman put up a career-high 26 points, the home team held onto its lead throughout the game and won 60-55. Dartmouth trailed by 11 points at halftime and went on an 11-3 run, and was within five points of tying the game at the end of the third. Entering the fourth, the teams traded baskets before the Black Bears took it away with late free throws. In the last 12 years, the teams have faced off eight times and Maine has won seven of the eight meetings, the last time the Big Green won was in November of 2005.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth enters the contest after taking down in-state foe New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon. The Big Green had not defeated UNH in seven years, and came out on top, 57-49. After being down by 10 points at halftime, Dartmouth fought back, scoring 40 points in the second half and holding off more scoring from the Wildcats to take the win. Isalys Quiñones led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds.
SHOOTING WELL
Through the first seven games, three players are averaging double digits each game, with junior Cy Lippold leading with a 15 points-per-game average, senior Kate Letkewicz averaging 12.7 and Quiñones averaging 11. The Big Green is also doing well from the free throw line so far, with a shooting percentage of 77.5, where they rank 15th in the nation.
STARTING STRONG
The 6-1 mark is the best the team has posted in recent years. At this point last season, Dartmouth was 3-4, seven games into 2015 the record was 1-6 and in 2014 was 5-2. This is also the first time since the 2014-15 season starting with a 5-0 home record.
