HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's hockey fell to No. 3/3 Clarkson, 3-0, at Thompson Arena on Friday. The Big Green are now 5-18-0 overall and 3-14-0, while the Golden Knights improved to 21-4-4 and 15-1-1.
“I'm really proud of how our girls played tonight,” head coach Laura Schuler said. “We killed off 11 penalties against a team with the number one power play in our conference. Clarkson is at 28.8 percent and for us to be able to kill off all including a 3v5 was outstanding. Our girls showed a lot of resiliency with second-, third- and fourth-effort plays. We just need to continue to work on creating offense.”
Senior Robyn Chemago was a strong force in net, stopping 43 shots throughout the game. Sophomore Kate Landers led Dartmouth with four shots and had a number of big plays in front of the net to keep Clarkson at bay.
The Big Green came out aggressively, going shot for shot with the Golden Knights. It was not until the final five minutes of the first period that Clarkson was able to get on the board when Genevieve Bannon got one into the right corner at 14:11, giving the visitors a one-goal lead heading into the first intermission.
Bannon struck again at 7:51 in the second, with assists going to Loren Gavel and Cayley Mercer for the second time that night. Savannah Harmon added Clarkson's third and final tally of the day at 13:18 to make it a 3-0 game. The home team pulled their goalie in an effort to find the back of the net, but Clarkson netminder Shea Tiley managed to stop each shot.
The Golden Knights outshot the Big Green, 46-16. Dartmouth killed off each and every one of its penalties to keep the number one team in the conference off the board when skating with the extra player.
Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday when it hosts No. 5/5 St. Lawrence.
