HANOVER, N.H. – Three second half goals that came in less than three minutes of each other was the difference in Monday night's 3-1 victory over non-conference foe Marist on Burnham Field. Junior
Zoe Boocock scored the first Big Green goal in the 56th minute, while freshman
Izzy Glennon and senior
Remy Borinsky both scored in the 58th minute. Â Â
Â
Dartmouth (8-4-2) outshot Marist (7-7-1) 23-9, which included a 15-5 margin in the second half. The Big Green held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal and finished with five corner kicks compared to three for the Red Foxes. Junior goalkeeper
Lorna McElrath earned her first career win for Dartmouth.
Â
"I am proud of the way that we responded tonight after going down a goal," said head coach
Ron Rainey. "It was great to get contributions from many different players as well."
Â
The beginning of the first half was a defensive struggle, with play mainly happening in the middle of the field. That changed in the 18th minute when Abby Murphy received a pass from Riley Abate and took advantage of the space in front of her, sending home a goal for Marist, giving them a 1-0 advantage.
Â
Dartmouth outshot Marist 6-0 for the remainder of the half, but the Red Foxes would stay on top at the halftime break.
Â
It was all Dartmouth in the second half, the Big Green controlled the tempo from the whistle and their aggression paid off. In the 56th minute,
Alyssa Neuberger found Boocock who sent a rainbow shot from the corner of the box over the keeper to tie it at one.
Â
Two minutes later, Borinsky sent a hard cross towards Glennon who was there to push it to the back of the net to give the Big Green a 2-1 lead.
Â
22 seconds later a foul set up Borinsky for a penalty kick and she made the most of her chance, burying her fifth goal of the season to make it 3-1. McElrath came away with a diving save in the 64th minute to preserve the lead and the win for the Big Green.
Â
Dartmouth returns to Ivy League play next when they travel to the Big Apple on Saturday to face Columbia for a 6 p.m. start.
