The Big Green corner leads the nation in interception and passes defended per game

HANOVER, N.H. — STATS added seven players to its original list of 25 players on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, which is bestowed upon the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Defensive Player of the Year, and one of the newcomers was Dartmouth cornerback Isiah Swann.
A junior from Queen Creek, Arizona, Swann has emerged as one of the top cover men in the FCS, leading the nation in interceptions (5), interceptions per game (1.0) and passes defended per game (2.4). In the second game of the year at Holy Cross, the 6-0, 190-pound corner tied a school record with three interceptions in a game (all in the first half), then added a pick-six to his resume two weeks ago at Yale, capping a 41-18 victory over the defending Ivy League champion.
Swann is just two interceptions shy of tying the Dartmouth single-season record, set by former San Diego Charger Lloyd Lee '98, and with nine career picks is four shy of the all-time Big Green record of 13 set by Scott Sims '89 and matched by Lee.
The last Dartmouth defender to be named to this watch list was Folarin Orimolade '17 in 2016, the year he earned the Bushnell Cup as the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. Orimolade went on to sign a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Rams before playing in the CFL this summer with the Calgary Stampeders.
The Buchanan Award, presented since 1995, has watch list updates during the season. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will select the winner following the regular season.
Dartmouth (5-0, 2-0 Ivy) will attempt to maintain its perfect record and improve to 6-0 for the second time in four years when the Big Green play at Columbia (3-2, 0-2 Ivy) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The game will be televised locally in New York on SNY and online through ESPN+, the new subscription streaming service, as well as over the airwaves in the Upper Valley on 94 ESPN Radio (94.3 and 94.5 FM) and around the world online at 945espn.com with Brett Franklin and Wayne Young '72 calling the action.
