HANOVER, N.H. – Playing in front of its home crowd for the first time this season, the Dartmouth men's soccer came away with a 2-2 tie Tuesday night against Boston University at Burnham Field. Sophomore
Tiger Graham finished the night with two goals to lead the Big Green.
The Big Green (0-3-1) were outshot 18-14 by the Terriers (1-2-2) but both teams finished the night with six shots on goal. BU had two corner kicks compared to zero for Dartmouth.
The Big Green attack was felt early. In just the 19th minute
Noah Paravicini set up Graham in front of the net who made a move to create space and buried it home past the keeper to make it 1-0 Dartmouth.
BU tried to answer back in the first half with three shots but none were on target and Dartmouth went into the half with the slim lead.
It only took 48 seconds into the second half for the Big Green to extend their lead.
Amadu Kunateh received the ball on the baseline and shook off a defender to set up Graham for a header who found the lower-left corner of the net to make it 2-0 Dartmouth.
The Terriers showed some fight and brought it to a one goal deficit in the 79th minute. Kari Petursson took a free kick and found Matt McDonnell for his sixth goal of the season. After BU put some pressure on the Dartmouth goal, the Terriers were able to tie the game at two in the 87th minute on an own goal to send the match into overtime.
The intensity ramped up in the first overtime. A total of four yellow cards were issued, with each team receiving two. Each team had chances down the stretch but were unable to capitalize in both overtimes, sending both sides home with a tie.
Dartmouth will now prepare for its next game on Saturday night when they take on New Hampshire at 7 p.m. at Burnahm Field. It is the rematch of the NCAA Tournament second round game from last season which UNH won in penalty kicks.
