Brick & Brew Athletes of the Week: White and Swann
9/26/2018 10:41:00 AM | Football, Sailing - Open & Women's, Athletics
The Big Green competed on the road and nearby on the water this past weekend. Senior Emma White led the sailing team to a first-place finish in the Mrs. Hurst Bowl on nearby Mascoma Lake. Junior Isiah Swan was a big time thief for the football team down in Worcester, Mass. The 6-foot cornerback had three interceptions in the 34-14 win at Holy Cross.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Isiah Swann, Jr., Queen Creek, Ariz. CB, Football
Dartmouth cornerback Isiah Swann was honored by not just the Ivy League as its Defensive Player of the Week for a second straight week, but also by STATS, which chose the junior as its FCS National Defensive Player of the Week. This is Swann's third career weekly honor from the conference office, and second national weekly honor, having been selected as the FCS Freshman of the Week two years ago.
On Saturday at Holy Cross, Swann spearheaded a defensive effort that held the host Crusaders without a point or a first down into the fourth quarter. The cornerback from Queen Creek, Arizona, intercepted three passes — all in the first half — to tie a Big Green single-game record, plus contributed three tackles to the 34-14 victory.
Emma White, Sr., Annapolis, Md. Skipper, Sailing
Senior skipper Emma White led her crew to first place in the Mrs. Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth this past weekend. The Big Green finished on top in dominating fashion, earning 74 points, which was 53 better than the second place finisher. White and her crews did the bulk of their work in the B Division which they won by 19 points.
