The Big Green football and women's Rugby teams capped off a beautiful New England fall afternoon with dominating wins in their respective sports. Senior wide receiver Drew Estrada had 200 receiving yards in a 42-10 win over Yale. Freshman Kristin Bitter scored a try and added six conversions in the rugby team's win over Quinnipiac.Â
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Drew Estrada, Sr., Argyle, Texas., WR, Football
A senior from Argyle, Texas, wide receiver Drew Estrada became just the fourth Dartmouth player to amass 200 receiving yards in a game, doing so with just five catches in the 42-10 homecoming victory over Yale on Saturday. He made his presence known right away, hauling in a 75-yard touchdown toss on the game's second play from scrimmage. Estrada added grabs of 19, 25 and 23 yards in the first half, then started the third quarter with another long touchdown catch, this time a 61-yard score on the Big Green's third play of the half to give him 203 yards, 16 shy of the school record. Estrada also ran the ball twice for 13 yards, giving him 216 all-purpose yards, his second time topping 200 this season. The 203 receiving yards left him needing just 33 more to become the 23rd Dartmouth player with 1,000 in a career. For the season, Estrada leads the Ivy League with 376 receiving yards and a 22.1-yard average per catch while ranking second with 137.3 all-purpose yards per game and fourth with 17 catches.
Kristin Bitter, Fr., San Diego, Calif., Flyhalf, Women's Rugby
In Dartmouth's 52-38 senior day win over Quinnipiac on Saturday, Kristin Bitter had six conversions and one try for a season-high 12 points. The freshman had four conversions in the first half before scoring a try and kicking the conversion in the second half to put the team up 47-19. She currently leads the team with 43 points. The Big Green has next weekend off before hitting the road for the Ivy Rugby Championship.
