Cape Air Athletes of the Week - Estrada & Bitter
10/28/2019 3:52:00 PM | Football, Women's Rugby, Athletics
Dartmouth football continues to roll through the fall, winning their sixth-straight game, thanks in large part, to senior wide receiver Drew Estrada who set a single-game record with 142 yards on punt returns. The women's rugby team earned their fourth Ivy Rugby championship, with freshman Kristin Bitter leading the way with 16 points.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Drew Estrada, Sr., Argyle, Texas, WR, Football
Senior Drew Estrada broke a school single-game record that had stood for 52 years with his 142 yards on punt returns in a 59-24 victory over Columbia on Friday night. It was his first return that sent him on his way to the record as he brought back the first Lion punt of the night 87 yards to the house — the second-longest punt return in Big Green history — to give Dartmouth a 7-3 lead. He later added returns of 5, 40 and 10 yards, each of which led to another Big Green score (a field goal and two touchdowns). But Estrada didn't rest on his laurels as he ran the ball three times for 16 yards and a touchdown, caught two passes for 14 yards and even completed his first pass attempt for a 34-yard gain. His efforts on punt returns earned him the Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week award as well.
Kristin Bitter, Fr., San Diego, Calif., Flyhalf, Women's Rugby
In Dartmouth's 41-22 victory over Harvard on Saturday, Kristin Bitter led the team with 16 points from one try, four conversions and a penalty kick. The win gave the Big Green their fourth Ivy Rugby Championship title in the past five years. The rookie is currently first on the team with 59 points as the team heads into the NIRA Championship next week.
