Swann and Teevens Finalists for Buchanan, Robinson Awards

HANOVER, N.H. — STATS announced the finalists today for its legacy awards, which honor the national players and coach of the year in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), and among the finalists from Dartmouth were senior Isiah Swann and Buddy Teevens, the Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach.

Swann, a native of Queen Creek, Arizona, is one of the 26 finalists from across the country — and the only one from the Ivy League — for the Buck Buchanan Award, which recognizes the top defensive player in the FCS. The 6-0, 195-pound cornerback finished fifth in the voting last year when he was a unanimous All-American for leading all of Division I with nine interceptions.

This season, Swann continued to terrorize opposing quarterbacks, picking off four passes to lead the Ivy League while successfully defending 15 throws, tying him for the conference lead with teammate Darren Stanley, despite missing the first three games with an injury. He returned two of his interceptions for touchdowns, tying the Dartmouth single-season record while breaking the program's career mark with four pick-sixes. Due to his missed time, he does not qualify for the individual national rankings, but if a game was added to his total, his per-game average of 1.88 passes defended per game would rank second in the FCS. The last of his Dartmouth-record 17 career interceptions came on the final defensive play of the year in the end zone, preserving a 29-23 victory at Brown and clinching the Big Green's share of the Ivy League title.

Teevens, who finished his 20th season over two stints as Dartmouth's head coach, is one of 15 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, given to the top head coach in the FCS. This past season, he guided the Green to their league-record 19th conference crown (and the fourth of his tenures) with a 6-1 mark in the circuit and 9-1 mark overall. Dartmouth ended the regular season ranked 20th by the coaches and 21st in the STATS poll, the second straight year it was ranked in the top 25; the Big Green had an identical record last year to finish 15th and 18th in the two polls, respectively.

With the title-clinching triumph on the final day of the season, Teevens also surpassed the namesake of his position, Bob Blackman, as Dartmouth's winningest head coach with 105 victories. Over the past five seasons, Dartmouth has posted a 9-1 record three times while earning two Ivy League titles, and its 47 wins over the last six years are six more than any other Ancient Eight team.

A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will select the winners. Voting is based on the regular season.

All four awards and the STATS FCS Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be celebrated at the STATS FCS Awards Banquet and Presentation, scheduled for Jan. 10 in Frisco, Texas, on the eve of the national championship game.
