12/16/2019 3:32:00 PM | Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Athletics
The Big Green basketball teams both took on neighboring Maine this past week and came out on top in both match-ups. The women were led by Annie McKenna who had five assists in the first team win over Maine since 2006. On the men's side, senior James Foye was instrumental in a 77-44 win over the Black Bears.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
James Foye, Sr., Hamilton, Mass., G, Men's Basketball
Senior James Foye put together two strong games for the Dartmouth men's basketball team this past week, averaging 17.5 points while shooting 68.4 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the perimeter. First, he led the Big Green to its second-largest victory over a Division I opponent in the NCAA division era (which began in 1973) — a 77-44 triumph at Maine — with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Three days later, the guard battled through an illness to provide 17 more points, including eight in the final minute during a frantic comeback attempt, while knocking down 7-of-9 field goals and 3-of-4 trifectas. The last of those triples came with 13.9 seconds on the clock, closing the gap to one, but the Big Green came up just short at Boston University, 78-76. Foye enters this week as the third most accurate long-distance shooter in Division I at 53.7 percent (29-of-54).
Annie McKenna, Sr., Elmwood Park, Ill., G, Women's Basketball
Annie McKenna led the Dartmouth women's basketball team to a 2-1 week with wins over Maine and at UMass Lowell. The senior averaged 13.0 points per game, 3.6 assists per game and 2.7 rebounds per game while playing 37.3 minutes per game during the week. From Elmwood Park, Illinois, McKenna was three points shy of her career high with 18 points and dished out five assists against Maine in Dartmouth's first win over the Black Bears since 2006. She then posted 12 points, four assists and four rebounds in a win at UMass Lowell and finished with nine points against Texas State.
