HANOVER, N.H. — For the second time in three years, Buddy Teevens, the Robert L. Blackman Head Coach of Dartmouth Football, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. This time, he will be at Yankee Stadium on July 15 prior to the start of the 7 p.m. contest between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays.
Teevens will be joined on the mound by Bob Surace, Princeton's Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '25 Head Coach of Football, to promote the showdown between the Big Green and the Tigers at Yankee Stadium this fall on Nov. 9. The game will be the first for Dartmouth at any iteration of the venerated stadium and will be part of the celebration of not only the 150th anniversary of college football, but also the 250th anniversary of the founding of Dartmouth College.
A special website has been set up for Big Green and Princeton fans to purchase tickets to the baseball game. The first 200 fans who purchase tickets via the site will receive an exclusive Yankees hat co-branded with the Dartmouth/Princeton commemorative game logo.
The last time Teevens was on a big-league mound came on July 31, 2017, when he tossed the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park prior to a game between the host Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians. His strike was a harbinger for the 33-10 Dartmouth victory over Brown that fall at Fenway Park.
The Big Green will be looking to avenge last season's 14-9 loss to the Tigers when they meet at Yankee Stadium. The two teams were both nationally ranked while sporting perfect 7-0 records when they clashed at Princeton Stadium. The Tigers went on to finish the season undefeated, while Dartmouth won its final two games, settling for second place in the Ivy League standings and a national ranking of 15 in the coaches' FCS poll.
The series between Dartmouth and Princeton has enjoyed a long history that dates back to 1897 with the Big Green holding a 49-45-4 lead. The game at Yankee Stadium will be the 99th meeting between the two on the gridiron, but two of the early showdowns actually took place in New York at the Polo Grounds during the first decade of the 20th century.
Dartmouth will open the season at Jacksonville on Sept. 21 with kickoff tentatively slated for 1 p.m.
