The Big Green football team got 2019 off to a great start, traveling to Florida and coming home with a 35-6 drubbing of Jacksonville. Senior Drew Estrada did his part in assuring the victory with a career effort, setting up the first touchdown of the game and scoring early in the second quarter enroute to 235 all-purpose yards. Sophomore Izzy Glennon had three goals in a two-victory week for the women's soccer team. Against URI, the sophomore scored her first, following that with two goals in a 4-0 win over Sacred heart.Â
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Drew Estrada, Senior, Argyle, Texas, WR, Football
Senior Drew Estrada had a career day in the football season opener at Jacksonville on Saturday, leading Dartmouth to a 35-6 victory. And he wasted little time in making an impact on the game, taking the handoff on the first play from scrimmage for 62 yards, setting up the first Big Green touchdown. Early in the second quarter, the wide receiver caught three passes during another scoring drive, totaling 62 yards, the last coming on a 26-yard toss into the end zone. Estrada added another touchdown in the third quarter on a 13-yard reception to boost the lead to 35 points. By the end of the game, the Texas native led Dartmouth in rushing (79 yards) and receiving (104), both of which are career highs. But his contributions didn't end there as he handled punt return duties, bringing back a pair of kicks a total of 52 yards. All told, Estrada finished his day with 235 all-purpose yards — the 10th most ever by a Big Green player.
Izzy Glennon, So, Sea Cliff, N.Y. , Forward, Women's Soccer
Izzy Glennon finished the week with three goals in Dartmouth's 2-0 week over Rhode Island and Sacred Heart.
The sophomore first found the back of the net in the 26th minute on Thursday against URI. Mollie McGorisk found Glennon who pushed the ball past the Rams' defender and in the goal to help the Big Green to a 2-0 victory.
From Sea Cliff, N.Y., Glennon had the first multi-goal game of her career at SHU. She scored early in the eighth minute and again in the 68th minute in Dartmouth's 4-0 win over the Pioneers.
With the two goals this past week, Glennon takes over the team lead and is tied for the most in the Ivy League with five.
