HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth volleyball ended the fall with a 3-0 loss to unanimous Ivy League champion Brown at Leede Arena on Senior Day Saturday (14-25, 23-25, 11-25).
Â
All four seniors saw playing time in the final matches of their careers:
Francesca Meldrum had five kills, one solo block and six points;
Bella Hedley recorded five digs;
Nicole Liddle registered four kills, one block assist and 4.5 points; and
Emma Moffet had two kills, and two points.
Ellie Blain led the way with her nine kills and 9.5 points, while
Makenzie Arent had 26 assists and
Taite Ryan recorded seven digs.
Â
"Obviously, that wasn't our best performance tonight, but under the circumstances, we're really proud of how we started and where we ended the season," head coach
Gilad Doron said. "7-7 in conference, 15-8 for the reason are really good marks. The seniors helped us be where we are today and hopefully the youth will help raise us to the next level. We will certainly miss Fran, Bella, Emma and Nicole, but they have represented us well and fought hard. I think the young players are ready to help us keep moving forward."
Â
The Bears started with a 4-1 edge before kills by Ryan and Blain got the Big Green within a point (4-5). A few too many Dartmouth errors allowed Brown to pull ahead, giving the visitors a 17-8 lead. Kills from Meldrum, Blain,
Amelia Gibbs and Liddle got the Green within eight (13-21), while a 4-1 Bear run sent the win in that direction (14-25).
Â
Dartmouth had a 2-0 lead to start set two from kills by Meldrum and Ryan and, even after Brown got on the board, it remained even (7-7). The teams traded points, tying at almost every point; the Bears pulled two ahead, only to have the Green tie it up and take the lead off an error (13-12). Four ties later and some huge kills later, Brown had a narrow 21-19 lead. Meldrum and Blain had kills at the end before the Bears made it 2-0 (23-25).
Â
Brown took control in the third, jumping out to a 13-4 lead. Some errors by the Bears and a kill by Ryan gave the Big Green some more points, but a 6-0 run on the other side of the net got close to ending it (6-21). A 4-1 Dartmouth run off kills by Moffet and Ryan and an ace by
Emma Engstrom gave some life to the home team before Brown got the final point (11-25).
