The cancellation comes as part of Dartmouth’s continuing effort to reduce the rate of COVID-19 transmission in its community
HANOVER, N.H. — As part of Dartmouth's continuing effort to reduce the rate of COVID-19 transmission in its community, the Dartmouth Athletics Department is canceling the Dartmouth Relays scheduled for Jan. 8-9.
Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Roby '79 said, "The dramatic increase in COVID-19 cases in the region and the nation combined with the large number of competitors who would enter Dartmouth campus for the relays, many of whom have no attestation requirements concerning COVID-19, the athletics department determined that the most responsible decision is to cancel the event."
Other Big Green indoor events with far fewer competitors will take place as scheduled, and the Dartmouth Relays will return in January of 2023 when public health conditions are expected to be more suitable.
The Dartmouth Relays include teams from all over New England, from high school to master's levels as well as collegiate programs. The relays generally host more than 2,000 athletes, making it one of the largest indoor meets on the East Coast.

The men's and women's track and field teams will compete once again on Jan. 22 against Yale and Columbia in New Haven, Connecticut.
