HANOVER, N.H. — After offering the coaches of the five reinstated teams the opportunity to return to their positions, the Dartmouth Athletics department announces the return of three coaches — the Bill Johnson Head Coach of Men's Golf Rich Parker, men's lightweight rowing head coach Dan Roock and diving coach Chris Hamilton. Both Alex Kirk, the women's golf head coach, and Jamie Holder, the swimming and diving head coach, declined the opportunity to return to their posts.
National searches for qualified, experienced candidates who can effectively lead our reinstated men's and women's swimming and diving, and women's golf programs will begin immediately.
"I am very pleased that Rich, Dan and Chris have decided to return to our staff," Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Roby said. "I look forward to working with all three as they have provided their student-athletes with exceptional experiences throughout their tenures. I also respect the decisions of Alex and Jamie, and we in Dartmouth Athletics wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors."
Parker comes back after guiding the program for 15 years. He has mentored 15 All-Ivy performances, seven on the first team, including Peter Williamson '12 who won the individual title three times and brought the team to the brink of its first conference crown since 1983 as a senior. No team has had more top-two finishes at the Ivy League Championship over the past eight complete seasons (3). A widely recognized golfer throughout the Upper Valley area, Parker has had notable success on several professional tours, and was the PGA Player of the Year in two states — New Hampshire (1999) and Vermont (1997).
Roock returns to oversee the men's lightweight rowing team to continue his second term at the helm, originally guiding the squad from 2009-12 before returning in 2018. He had terrific success upon his arrival in Hanover, leading the Big Green to a runner-up finish at the IRA National Championship in 2012, one year after seeing his team place third the year prior. Most recently, his lightweight 4- placed third at IRAs in the spring of 2019. Roock also spent 12 years as the head coach of the Cornell heavyweights (1997-2009) and before that, six years with the Princeton women (1990-96), taking them to three consecutive national titles.
Back for his 21st season as the diving coach is Hamilton, a member of the Maine Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. During his first two decades on the staff, no fewer than 31 of his divers qualified for the NCAA Zone Championship, with his most recent addition to that list, Justin Sodokoff '21, qualifying for the national championship last year on 3-meter. Sodokoff was also his first diver to earn All-America honors from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America. Two of his female divers, Erica Serpico '12 and Katy Feng '14, have won Ivy titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively, as well.
Parker and Hamilton have already resumed their duties, while Roock will return on March 29.
