Big Green teams in action for the first time in over 400 days
HANOVER, N.H. — The long wait is over for Dartmouth Athletics as a handful of teams return to intercollegiate competitions this weekend for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic locked down the country over a year ago.
The Big Green will host four events on Saturday and Sunday, while two more will take place on the road. Both the men's and women's tennis teams will welcome Colby-Sawyer to the Thompson Courts on Saturday with the men starting at 10:30 a.m. and the women at 12:30 p.m. The following day, the women's and men's lacrosse teams will take on Tufts at Scully-Fahey Field as the women begin play at 11 a.m. and the men at 3 p.m. In addition, the softball team will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader at UMass on Saturday while the men's and women's track teams will compete at the University of New Hampshire with other America East teams from UMass Lowell, Vermont, Maine and Hartford all in attendance as well.
All events hosted by Dartmouth will be closed to the public. Spectators inside or around the fields of play will not be allowed, and tailgating will be prohibited as well. The tennis and lacrosse contests will be streamed live for fans to keep up with the action. Details on the various streams will be announced as they become finalized.
The softball doubleheader on Saturday is being streamed live on ESPN+ and can be watched by anyone that has a subscription to the service. UMass enters the weekend with a record of 11-10 and is coming off a four-game sweep of La Salle last weekend.
Both Colby-Sawyer tennis teams have played one intercollegiate match this spring with the men defeating Norwich University, 5-2, and the women falling to the Cadets, 6-1, this past Saturday.
Each of the Tufts lacrosse teams are 3-0 to date with the women outscoring their opponents by a 55-20 margin and the men by a combined difference of 80-38. Prior to playing the Big Green, they will go up against NESCAC opponent Bates on Saturday.
All of the teams at the track meet will have at least four meets under their respective belts, including the host Wildcats who have participated in seven to date.
Notes: When the tennis teams take to the court on Saturday, it will be the first athletic competition of any kind for any Dartmouth team in 407 days … all of the Big Green teams will be playing without their full roster due to campus restrictions on how many students are able to be on campus … links for video streams and live stats will be added to this page and the team's schedule page as they become available.
