The Big Green plated three runs in the seventh before the final out was recorded

BRIGHTON, Mass. — Trailing 6-1 with two outs in the seventh, Dartmouth staged a rally that brought the tying run to the plate, but host Boston College (11-27) was able to subdue the uprising and hold on to defeat the Big Green (1-2) on Wednesday afternoon at Harrington Athletics Village, 6-4.
Freshman Kelly Beaupre got the rally started by getting plunked by the first pitch in the frame, but Dartmouth found itself down to its final out after a fielder's choice and a line drive to left was caught. Sophomore Maria Angelino worked her way on by drawing a walk, however, and freshman Izzy Kam followed by slapping an 0-2 pitch into left for a two-run triple. On the very next pitch, junior Billie McFadyen ripped an RBI double to center to close the gap to two. But Peyton Schnackenberg got the final out on strikes to put an end to the Big Green hopes.
Junior Madie Augusto (1-2) held the Eagles scoreless over the first two frames, working around a trio of singles, before the BC bats broke through in the third. A single, double and walk loaded the bases with nobody out, and Kristin Giery followed with a two-run single. After a sacrifice fly was followed by an RBI double off the bat of Emme Martinez to bring home the third and fourth runs of the inning, junior Brooke Plonka relieved on the mound and escaped without any further damage.
Dartmouth answered back in the top of the fourth, however, when sophomore Kate Farren reached on an infield error and freshman Mary Beth Cahalan hammered a double to center field one out later to bring home Farren all the way around from first to make it a 4-1 game.
In the fifth, Kennedy Labshere deposited the second pitch she saw over the fence in left for her first collegiate home run, and Boston College tacked on an unearned run thanks to a couple of errors to take a 6-1 lead, all before the first out of the frame was recorded. But Plonka shrugged those runs off, fanning the next two hitters and ending the inning on a grounder to short.
C.C. Cook (2-9) picked up the victory with two innings of one-hit, scoreless relief over the fourth and fifth innings. Starter Susannah Anderson faced just one over the minimum in her three stanzas of work, walking only the leadoff batter of the game.
Both Elisabeth Laviolette and Martinez had two hits to lead the Eagles' offense. While the Big Green managed just three safeties, all three went for extra bases.
Notes: After the game, Boston College hosted a short ceremony to recognize the lone senior on the Dartmouth roster, Abby Shipley, who received flowers from head coach Jen Williams on the field. Shipley, who will have two years of eligibility as a graduate transfer, has a career .333 average over 30 games with four doubles, three homers and 13 RBIs.
