1/28/2022 8:10:00 AM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Skiing, Athletics
Isaac Weigel and Jasmine Drolet begin their Dartmouth careers as winners.
For the second week in a row a British Columbia native tops the podium and is joined by a classmate from the heartland of America; Iowa, as our DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the week. Nordic skier Jasmine Drolet kicked off her Dartmouth career winning her first two races. Isaac Weigel came out on top in six events swimming at the Tate Ramsden Invitational.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Isaac Weigel, Fr., Iowa City, Iowa, Free/IM, Men's Swimming
First year swimmer Isaac Weigel had a great weekend at the Tate Ramsden Invitational. The Iowa City native won six of the seven events he competed in (three individual events and three relays). Individually he won the 500 free, 1000 free and 100 breast, while coming second in the 100 fly throughout the two-day, three-session meet. He was also part of a trio of first-place relays (200 medley, 400 free and the 200 free). As a team the Big Green men won all but one of the 18 events at the home meet, downing UMass, 232-91.
Jasmine Drolet, Fr., Rossland, British Columbia, Nordic Skiing
Freshman Jasmine Drolet had quite the collegiate debut this past weekend at the St. Michael's Carnival, handily winning both the women's 10K freestyle and 5K classic races. First up was the 10K, immediately taking control of the race as she reached the 5K checkpoint with a 12-second lead. The distance between Drolet and the field continued to expand until she crossed the tape in 27:08.3, more than 26 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The following day, the British Columbia native proved her performance was no fluke as she cruised to victory by more than 15 seconds in the 5K. Drolet has two of the three individual golds for the Big Green in the first two carnivals and two of the six podiums.
