THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth, victorious in six of its last seven, travels to Yale and Brown to close the regular season. The Big Green clinched a spot in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament last weekend during their weekend sweep of Cornell and Columbia.
Â
CONSISTENT IMPROVEMENT
Last year, Dartmouth went 7-7 in the Ivy League and it was the most conference wins since a 9-5 mark in 2015. The Big Green have already upped their Ancient Eight performance this season with an 8-4 record with two matches remaining.
Â
BOMI'S BLOCKS
Junior
Bomi Ogunlari is seven away from breaking the program record for blocks in a season. She currently has 90, and Elisa Scudder '14 racked up 96 in 2013. Ogunlari is well on pace for the program record in blocks per set with 1.23.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth punched its ticket to the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in a successful weekend at Leede Arena that saw the Big Green take two victories. They defeated Cornell in three sets on Friday night (and clinched thanks to Columbia's win over Harvard), and then downed Columbia in four sets on Senior Night. The Lions won the first set in that one as Dartmouth mixed some new faces into the rotation, but the Big Green bounced back for a 28-26 victory in Set 2 on a clutch block by
Ava Roberts and
Amelia Gibbs. One of five seniors that were honored pre-match,
Ali Silva had a career-high four aces.
Â
SERVICE LINE SUCCESS
Dartmouth currently sits at 12th in the nation in aces per set with 1.92 and despite that favorable ranking, the Big Green aren't the Ivy League leader. Yale currently leads the conference with 2.38 aces per set, but has committed 52 more errors than aces. The Big Green are unique in the sense that they rack up a high number of aces, but are able to keep errors to a minimum. They currently have 146 aces on the season to only 96 errors.
Â
SCOUTING YALE
Yale is currently tied for first in the Ivy League with an 11-1 conference record, but lost its most recent match to Princeton, putting their chances to host the tournament in jeopardy. Beyond ranking fourth in the nation in aces per set, Yale is 10th in opponent hitting percentage at .152. The Bulldogs have held the opposition under a .100 clip in seven matches this season.
Â
SCOUTING BROWN
After going undefeated in the Ivy League a season ago en route to their conference title, the Bears have taken a slight step back, but are still guaranteed a spot in the Ivy League Tournament and will have a chance to repeat. Brown's strongest asset is its blocking. Beau Vanderlaan and Gabby Derrick both rank top-five in the league for blocks per set, while the Bears rank 25th in the country (and best in the Ivy League) as a team in that category.
Â
ALL SPOTS ARE TAKEN
It remains to be seen where the Ivy League Tournament will be played, but we know who will be in it. Yale, Princeton, Brown and Dartmouth all punched their tickets last weekend. Yale and Princeton are tied for first and have strong aspirations of hosting, while Dartmouth and Brown are tied for third and jockey for favorable positioning in the final weekend of the regular season.
