Men's and Women's Golf Finish 2022 at the Ivy Championships
One of the objectives every season for the Big Green athletics teams is to compete in the Ivy Championship for their sport. Men's and women's golf were fit to be tied as both competed with the best the League had to offer this past weekend. Fifth-year senior Jason Liu finished tied for fourth, just three strokes behind the leader. On the women's side, sophomore Katherine Sung led the Big Green to a fourth-place tie with Yale. Sung ended the tournament tied for third with a 6-over-222.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Katherine Sung, So., Palo Alto, Calif., Women's Golf
The sophomore played like anything but a golfer in her first collegiate season, matching the best-ever finish by a Big Green women's golfer at the Ivy League Championship this past weekend, tying for third with a 73-78-71—222 (+6). Sung had 35 pars and seven birdies during the three rounds, helping Dartmouth finish fourth but just 10 strokes behind the champion, the second closest the team has ever been to the top of the leaderboard at the event. For the season, Sung led the team in stroke average at 75.27 and finished in the top three five times.
Jason Liu, 5th-Sr., Windsor, Conn., Men's Golf
The four-time team captain showed off the consistency he played with throughout his career at the Ivy League Men's Golf Championship this past weekend, carding a 74-73-74—221 to finish 8-over par, just three strokes behind the champion. By virtue of tying for fourth, the graduate student earned a spot on the All-Ivy League First Team, plus was also named to the Academic All-Ivy League Men's Golf Team, his third academic honor from the conference office in his career. Liu finished his final collegiate season with a stroke average of 73.14, a career best.
