New program focuses on personal and academic support for incoming student-athletes
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth College Athletics Department recently held their inaugural First-Year Launch program. Fifty-nine student-athletes from the Class of 2026 competing on fall teams attended the program.

Dartmouth Peak Performance's First-Year Launch program is designed to provide support in the personal and academic transition to Dartmouth for incoming student-athletes. The program is focused on assisting student-athletes in connecting to academic resources, building relationships with faculty, creating a sense of belonging and community, and priming a growth mindset and psychological wellness.
Â
"Our First-Year Launch program not only provides our student-athletes with the opportunity to meet campus resources and faculty that they will interact with throughout their student experience, but allows them to meet their fellow Big Green in an interactive way," said Liz Johnson, assistant athletics director for peak performance/varsity sports and student-athlete development. "It was tremendous seeing a variety of teams interact and watch as new friendships sparked throughout the evening."
Â
"The First-Year Launch program was essential to get to know about all the available resources for student-athletes at DP2, as well as to get to meet our classmates, deans and faculty," said Dartmouth volleyball freshman Kauany Gutz. "I personally loved the small group workshops because we were able to work together with our classmates, get to know each other better and make some friends."
Â
"The First-Year Launch program was a fun, quick and easy way to meet athletes who are in the same kind of position as you," said Dartmouth football freshman Logan Klitsch. "We were able to learn a little bit about each other and were also able to make quick connections."
Â
Following dinner and icebreakers to get to know one another, a series of workshops were led by the undergraduate deans, team faculty advisors, counseling services and DP2 staff to help these student-athletes successfully launch their careers at Dartmouth.
Â
The first of three launch programs to encompass all of the Class of 2026 was held on Thursday, August 25. The remaining two programs will include student-athletes from the winter and spring teams.
