Conference Championships wrap up the winter seasons
This week's athletes of the week brought glory to Dartmouth in their performances in conference championships. Senior Julia Fenerty anchored the 4x800m relay to victory and finished second in the mile at the Indoor Heptagonal track and field championship. Meanwhile, outdoors on the slopes sophomore John Hagenbuch took gold in the 10K skate at the EISA championship.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Julia Fenerty, Sr., Franklin, Mass., MD, Women's Track and Field
Julia Fenerty of the women's track and field team put on an impressive performance at the 2023 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships this past weekend at Leverone Field House. Fenerty finished second in the mile to claim All-Ivy second team honors. Later on Sunday, Fenerty ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x800m relay team, earning All-Ivy first team for the event.
John Steel Hagenbuch, So., Ketchum, Idaho, Nordic Men's Skiing
Hagenbuch continued to tear up the Nordic trails at the EISA Championships hosted by St. Lawrence this past weekend, winning the 10K skate on Friday before placing second in the 20K classic at Mount Van Hoevenberg. The victory in the 10K freestyle was quite convincing as he built up a lead of nearly 30 seconds at the midpoint of the race before taking the gold by more than a minute. Hagenbuch has now won all three of his freestyle races this winter since returning from the FIS World Junior Championships and will enter the NCAA Championships next week as the third-ranked men's Nordic skier in the East.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
