HANOVER, N.H. – Mike Harrity, the Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation at Dartmouth College, today announced the promotion of Trevor Michelson to head men's lightweight rowing coach. Michelson spent the 2022-23 season as the interim head coach.
Â
"Throughout this entire year, Trevor's leadership of our men's lightweight rowing program has been remarkable. I am excited to promote Trevor to head coach and work alongside him to continue moving our program forward," Harrity said. "Trevor's commitment to Dartmouth rowing and the student-athlete experience will position our students to maximize their potential."
Â
The Big Green had a successful season this past year under Michelson's tutelage. Dartmouth qualified for the IRA National Regatta as a team for the first time since 2014 after winning the varsity eight petite final at Eastern Sprints in mid-May. The team went on to finish seventh at nationals as three Big Green rowers earned Empacher-IRCA All-America honors.
Â
"I am thrilled to be named the head coach of men's lightweight rowing, and want to thank the Friends of Dartmouth Rowing, Mike Harrity, Taurian Houston and [Betsy and Mark Gates 1959 Head Coach of Men's Heavyweight Rowing] Wyatt Allen for their constant support this past year," said Michelson. "It's the honor of my life, and I'm excited to continue to lead the lightweights as we climb the ranks of the Ivy League."
Â
Michelson arrived in Hanover prior to the start of the 2017-18 season, joining the men's lightweight staff as an assistant coach. After three seasons on the staff, Michelson spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach for the women's rowing program before returning to the men's lightweight rowing team.
Â
Michelson is currently involved with the U.S. national program, serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. U23 Men's National Team Camp (M8+/M4+) for the upcoming 2023 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Michelson is coaching the M4+, which is slated to compete at the championships July 19-23.
