Five Big Green Recognized as At-Large Academic All-Ivy

Members of equestrian, women’s rugby, sailing and skiing all recognized
HANOVER, N.H. — Five Dartmouth student-athletes have been named to the At-Large Academic All-Ivy Team, as announced on Tuesday morning. Senior Leah Branstetter of equestrian, fifth year Sophie Ragg of women's rugby, senior Christopher Long of co-ed sailing, junior Max Martin of men's skiing and senior Gwen Wattenmaker of women's skiing were all recognized. All owned impressive grade point averages of 3.7 or higher heading into the spring semester.

An Asian Society, Cultures, and Languages major, Branstetter was honored after garnering NCEA All-Academic first team and being named to the NCEA Academic Honor Roll. She was named the Most Outstanding Player on the flat at the 2023 ECAC Championship. Throughout the season, Branstetter earned points at three meets, which was second on the team.

A biology major, Ragg excelled on and off the rugby field, highlighted by being named to the All-NIRA First XV (All-American) for the first time in her career. She scored four tries in 2022, a season that ended with her third NIRA championship (2018, 2021 and 2022). Ragg was the winner of the 2023 Kenneth Archibald Prize, Dartmouth's highest honor which is presented annually to "the member of the graduating class who has been four years in attendance, who has been the best all-around athlete, regard also being had to moral worth and high standing in scholarship." In the classroom, Ragg had a 3.70 GPA.

Long, who owned a 3.80 GPA, competed at the ICSA Team Race National Championship, helping Dartmouth to a fifth-place finish. The computer science major competed or served as a reserve in both Open ISCA National Championship regattas. Throughout the season, Long competed in seven regattas and was a featured reserve for 15 regattas.

Martin, an economics major, was honored with Academic All-Ivy after skiing in all six carnivals and earning points for the team in seven of his 12 races with one podium (third).

A computer science major, Wattenmarker skied in all six carnivals as well, with five top-10 finishes, scoring in nine of the 12 races. She qualified for NCAAs for the second time in her career.
