Granite State Action During the Winter Break
Following a brief holiday break the men's and women's hockey teams returned to action this past week. Both teams competed in the state of New Hampshire with the women at UNH and the men hosting Lake Superior State at the Ledyard Classic tournament. The Big Green skaters each earned a shutout with the help of stellar performances by Vanessa Stamper and Cooper Flinton.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.

Vanessa Stamper, So., Bloomfield Hills, Mich., F, Women's Hockey
The Big Green women's hockey team opened the second half of the season with a huge win over Granite State rival UNH this weekend, defeating the Wildcats by a score of 5-0. Vanessa Stamper played a key role in the victory, tallying her first goal of the season midway through the first period, ultimately proving to be the game-winner. She later assisted on the final Big Green score of the night, an empty net goal from Shae Messner late in the third period.
Cooper Flinton, So., Auburn, N.H., F, Men's Hockey
The men's hockey team returned to Thompson Arena for the first time in nearly two months, hosting the 34th Annual Ledyard Classic over the weekend. Cooper Flinton scored the game-winning in Friday's 4-0 win over Lake Superior State, before tallying the Big Green's lone goal against No. 8 Maine in the championship on Saturday. Flinton was later named to the All-Tournament Team.
