CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—The No. 15 Dartmouth men's hockey team took on No. 4 Boston College on Friday night. Dartmouth suffered its first loss of the 2024-25 season falling 5-3.
The first period saw both team generate chances but it was the Big Green that skated into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
With less than a minute left in the first period, Sean Chisholm poked the puck by a Boston College defender to Braiden Dorfman. Dorfman won the race for the puck and fended off a defender and found Steven Townley streaking to the slot. Dorfman fired a pass to his linemate who ripped home his third goal of the season. Dorfman picked up his second assist of the season while Chisholm notched his fourth.
Boston College tied the game at one at the 11:48 mark of the second period.
The tie didn't last long as the Big Green responded at the 16:14 mark of the frame. Chisholm forced a turnover in the neutral zone and fed the puck to Nikita Nikora. Nikora gained the line and passed the puck back to Chisholm who took a shot that was stopped. Cooper Flinton drove to the back post and notched his second goal of the year on the rebound. Nikora notched his 10th assist of the season while Chisholm got his fifth assist of his senior season.
After two periods, the Big Green led 2-1 with Dartmouth goalie Roan Clarke turning away 17 shots.
Boston College tied the game at the 4:48 mark of the third and then took the lead on the power play at the 13:54 mark. The Eagles made it a two goal game with a shorthanded empty netter with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
Dartmouth didn't go quietly as John Fusco blasted his fourth of the year from the left faceoff circle with 1:19 left in the third. CJ Foley and Nikora picked up assists on the play.
Despite the late goal, the Eagles scored their second empty netter with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.
Clake made 32 saves in the loss, it is the second 30+ save game of the season for the sophomore.
Dartmouth is the final team in Division I to suffer its first lost. The Big Green entered the weekend as the only team with no losses in the 2024-25 season.
Dartmouth falls to 2-1-0 this season against ranked opponents.
With his two assists, Nikora is now on six-game point streak, Chisholm is also on a six-game point streak. Foley also extended his point streak to six with an assist. Townley has a point in his last four games, while Flinton is now on a three-game point streak.
Dartmouth is back on the ice for another non-conference matchup on Sunday with Vermont. The Big Green and Catamounts faceoff in Burlington on Sunday at 4 pm.
