HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team hung with Columbia early, but succumbed to the high-powered Lion offense down the stretch in Friday evening's 80-56 loss inside Leede Arena.
The Big Green dropped to 6-15 on the season and 0-9 in the Ivy League, while Columbia improved to 17-5 and 8-1 in the Ancient Eight.
Clare Meyer, coming off her 24-point double-double against Harvard, led Dartmouth with 13 points as one of three scorers in double figures.
Victoria Page netted 12 and
Mia Curtis chipped in with 10. Columbia's balanced scoring featured four in double figures, including Abbey Hsu and Riley Weiss, who matched one another with 17. With Hsu's 12th point of the game, she became Columbia' all-time leading scorer. Susie Rafiu grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the Lions and
Carrington Washburn tied her career-high with seven boards to lead the Big Green.
Dartmouth was within five points (33-28) with less than five minutes remaining in the second quarter, but found itself facing a 15-point halftime deficit. Back-to-back buckets from Hsu, including a 3-pointer, kickstarted a 12-2 Columbia run that sent the visitors into the break with a 45-30 edge.
Earlier in the second quarter, the Big Green saw their first 10-point deficit, but responded with two
Nina Minicozzi triples in a span of three possessions. Dartmouth connected on 4-of-7 from deep in the first half with
Mekkena Boyd also draining multiple 3-pointers.
The Lions' lead never dipped to single digits in the second half, though Dartmouth had the ball with the chance to cut it to 10 midway through the third quarter. A 13-point Columbia lead quickly stretched to 18 (56-38) in a matter of minutes and later 20 (69-49) by the 5:29 mark of the fourth. The Lions stormed to their largest lead of the game, 80-51, with under two minutes remaining.
