ITHACA, N.Y. — In the midst of a four-game road stretch, the Dartmouth women's basketball team was defeated by Cornell, 61-47, inside Newman Arena on Friday evening.
Mia Curtis,
Clare Meyer and
Mekkena Boyd each scored in double figures to lead the Big Green.
Dartmouth moved to 6-12 on the season and 0-6 in Ivy League play, while Cornell improved to 7-11 and 1-5 in the Ancient Eight.
Paced by Curtis with 14, the Big Green had three with double figures in the scoring column for the second time this season, previously having done so in a road win over UMass Lowell (Meyer, Boyd and
Victoria Page). Meyer followed with 13 and Boyd added 11. Curtis knocked down a season-best four 3-pointers (4-of-8).
Cornell also used balanced scoring as Azareya Kilgoe, Kaya Ingram and Rachel Kaus each netted double figures. Kilgoe had the game-high with 14 points and was 2-of-2 from deep. The Big Red had a 33-29 edge on the boards in a game that didn't feature a double-digit rebounder. Summer Parker-Hall led the category with six.
After being deadlocked at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, Cornell led by as many as 15 in the second before the Big Green entered halftime riding the momentum of a 10-0 run. Rachel Kaus' jumper gave the Big Red a 30-15 advantage at the 2:50 mark of the second quarter and Boyd answered with a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession. A pair of buckets from Meyer and a last-minute trey from Curtis were also featured in the run that helped Dartmouth come within five (30-25) before the break.
Cornell matched its second-quarter effort in the third with another 18-point performance, eventually leading by 13 entering the fourth. The Big Red lead quickly grew to nine within the first minute of the third, but Dartmouth responded to cut it to four by the 7:03 mark thanks to Boyd's and-one. The lead returned to double digits after Parker-Hall's layup capped a costly 6-0 Big Red run. Fourth-quarter 3-pointers from Curtis and
Carrington Washburn were too late for Dartmouth, who was unable to come within 10 down the stretch.
