HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth football program will welcome two new faces to the coaching staff, and welcome back a familiar one in a different role, as they prepare for the 2024 season. Dan Hebert and Braxton Chapman have joined the staff as assistant coaches while former running backs assistant coach Danny O'Dea moves into a Director of Recruiting role.
Â
Hebert joins the coaching staff as the wide receivers assistant coach and comes to Dartmouth from the University of Kentucky where he has spent nearly two years as an offensive graduate assistant. Hebert assisted with coaching both the quarterbacks and running backs, including quarterback Will Levis, now with the Tennessee Titans, and running back Ray Davis, the Kentucky single-season touchdown record holder.
Â
Prior to his role at the University of Kentucky, Hebert spent five years at his alma mater, Central Connecticut State University. Prior to his graduation in 2018, Hebert started working as offensive quality control through early 2019, and then was promoted to a tight ends coach for two years before finishing his time at CCSU as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.
Â
In addition to appearing in two FCS playoffs and two bowls while at Kentucky, Hebert has also coached Tyshaun James, the CCSU career receiving touchdown record holder, who was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent.
Â
"I am excited to join the Dartmouth College community," Hebert said. "It did not take long to realize how special of a place Dartmouth is. One of the top academic institutions in the world, combined with the elite culture of the football program, made this decision an easy one.
Â
"Thank you to Mike Harrity and Coach McCorkle for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it. I am anxious to get to work and to help win another Ivy League Championship."
Â
Hebert will be joined by the new running backs assistant coach, Braxton Chapman, who hails from Coastal Carolina University where he has served as a graduate assistant working with both the running backs and special teams. In just under a year, Chapman also assisted with evaluating recruit prospects, all while earning his Master's of Education.
Â
Prior to Coastal Carolina, Chapman worked with the running backs and special teams at Northern Illinois University as a quality control coach. In this role, Chapman created the playbook, assisted with recruiting and official visits as well as serving as the academic advisor and coordinator for high academic risk running backs.
Â
Chapman played college football at both Youngstown State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree, as well as Northern Illinois University. Between both schools, Chapman won a MAC Championship as well as served as team captain and one of the football representatives for Youngstown State's student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Â
"I'm super excited for the opportunity to join the Dartmouth football family," Chapman said. "Dartmouth is known for winning championships and providing a world-class education that is second to none, and I look forward to doing everything that I can to develop the young men in our program and bring another championship to The Woods."
Â
In addition to the two newcomers, O'Dea will return to the Big Green's coaching staff, this time as the Director of Recruiting.
Â
O'Dea has served as the Big Green's running backs assistant coach for nine years. Through his tenure, the Big Green have won four Ivy League Championships, including the 2023 season, and three in the past four seasons.
Â
"We're excited about the knowledge and energy that Dan and Braxton bring to our staff, and are looking forward to leveraging Danny O'Dea's skills in our program's recruiting efforts," the Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach Sammy McCorkle said.
Â
The Big Green will look to build off a 5-2 Ivy League record in 2023 and the program's third Ivy League Championship in the past four seasons.
