HANOVER, N.H. – Last Saturday, the women's hockey team celebrated its season with the annual banquet, honoring the seniors and handing out team awards.
Seven members of the Big Green, including one senior, were chosen by their teammates and staff as this year's awards winners.
Senior
Jenna Donohue was named the team's MVP for her contributions on the ice this season. Having played in all 30 games for the Big Green, Donohue led the team with 15 assists and 22 points, being tied for the third most goals on the team with seven. Donohue also led the Big Green with two game winning goals and found herself on Sports Center Top10 for a goal at the beginning of the season against Assumption.
Cally Dixon took home this year's Offensive MVP award. The sophomore, who found most of her success on the power play, led the team with 10 goals, half of which came with the player advantage. Dixon also tallied seven assists for 17 overall points, placing her in a two-way tie for third best on the team.
The final MVP award went to sophomore
Izee Powell as she took home the Defensive MVP award. Powell potted six goals, four of which came on the power play, and had a hand in nine more, collecting assists. She also blocked 35 shots for the Big Green, the third highest amount this season.
Anne Averill took home Rookie of the Year for her performance during her first-year season. On defense, Averill found herself with multiple defense partners and stepping up in a variety of situations. Averill was also one of three players to block 28 shots this season.
Sophomore
Vanessa Stamper took home the Most Improved Player Award. Stamper played in one more game than she did her first year, collected two more points, took only one penalty all season, and scored the first goal against in-state rival UNH, the eventual game-winning goal.
The Big Green's unsung hero this season, first-year goaltender
Eleanor Rogers. Rogers, one of only two goaltenders this season and the sole goaltender for the first half of the year made 493 saves in 20 games, posting a 4.90 goals against average and an .837 save percentage. Rogers collected four of the Big Green's six wins during the 2023-24 season.
Finally, junior
Lauren Messier was honored with the Sarah Kennedy Award. The Sarah Kennedy award is given to a junior or senior who during their time at Dartmouth, has put the team above their individual goals, has shown a dedication to the team and school on and off the ice, has persevered through adversity, and shows a sincere love for the sport of hockey.
One of the captains this season, Messier played in every game for the Big Green, tallying 12 points, five goals and seven assists. Messier was also a leader in the faceoff circle winning 210 total faceoffs. She was not afraid to sacrifice her body, blocking 13 shots and playing in a variety of situations, including on the power play where she tallied two goals with the skater advantage.
In addition to the seven award winners, the Big Green honored their five seniors, presenting them with their framed jerseys.
