HANOVER, N.H. — Having already garnered a number of prestigious postseason honors, Dartmouth football defensive lineman Ejike Adele picked up perhaps his biggest honor to date on Tuesday as he was named a College Sports Communications first team Academic All-American. Adele is one of 25 first team honorees, which includes student-athletes from across Division I FCS and FBS.
A biology major in a pre-med track, Adele is one of only two Ivy League student-athletes named a first team Academic All-American (along with Patrick Passalacqua of Columbia). Harvard's Cooper Barkate was the only other Ivy Leaguer named to the second team.
Dartmouth's last Academic All-American prior to Adele was David Emanuels in 2018, while Dominic Lanza in 1997 was the Big Green's last first team Academic All-American.
Among Adele's postseason honors, he was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and a Stats Perform FCS third team All-American. Academically, he was named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.
On the field, Adele led Big Green in both sacks (6.0) and tackles-for-loss (12.0) while his 54 toal tackles were tied for second on the team. He had some highlight games, including at Columbia while he finished with nine tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks. At Princeton, he recorded 10 tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks. Adele finished the season third in the Ivy League in sacks (40th in the country), while leading the league in tackles-for-loss (which was good for 21st nationally).
In 2024, the Big Green wrapped up their fourth Ivy League Championship in the last five seasons, finishing 8-2 and 5-2 in the Ivy League while capturing their Ivy-record 22nd all-time title.
