Bears come back in the fourth quarter to win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Zyion Freer-Brown had an interception on the second play of the game, leading to an early Big Green touchdown, but Brown responded to defeat the Dartmouth football team, 35-28, on Saturday afternoon. First-year Myles Craddock ran it in from three yards out in the third quarter, but the Bears scored 14 unanswered in the fourth for the victory.

With the loss, Dartmouth ends its season at 7-3 and 4-3 in the Ivy League. Brown improves to 5-5 and 2-5.

"Too many mistakes," said Sammy McCorkle, Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach. "Turnovers hurt us and put us in really bad situations. Turnovers turned into points for them and you just can't do that. Disappointed the way the game finished. I'm disappointed for the seniors; I can't tell you enough about how proud I am of them, what they've meant to this program and just the resiliency they've shown through all the tough times they've been through."

Over the last three years of these seniors' careers, they went a combined 21-9, with two Ivy League Championships.

"Just hate for them to finish on this note, but I told them inside the locker room that one game doesn't signify who you are and what you've done for this program," said McCorkle. "They've made a huge impact and a huge footprint for Dartmouth football."

Offensively, quarterback Grayson Saunier was 24-of-41 on Saturday for 274 yards and three touchdowns, but three interceptions also hurt. Chris Corbo finished with a career-high tying eight catches for a career-high 83 yards and a touchdown. Fellow senior Grayson O'Bara had seven catches for 83 yards and a score.

"This has been the best four years of my life," said Corbo. "These guys I've played with throughout these four years, especially my class, these are my brothers for life. This program has changed my life forever. I am forever in debt to Coach Teevens, Coach McCorkle and the rest of the coaching staff, and everyone who's been a part of these last four years.

"I wouldn't trade it for the world."

Craddock led the rushing attack with 46 yards on 12 carries and his first-career touchdown, coming in front of many friends and family for the Rhode Island native. D.J. Crowther finished off a remarkable season with 40 yards on 16 carries, ending his senior campaign with 929 yards.

Freer-Brown and Ratcliff each had interceptions, both marking the first of their careers. Ratcliff's pick came one week after forcing and recovering a fumble against Cornell.

"Niquis is getting better and better," said McCorkle. "He's becoming more confident and he made some big plays for us out there. He's a hard worker and he deserves all the success he's having. And he's the type of guy who will continue to work hard."

Nico Schwikal led the defense with seven tackles while Bruce Williams and Cameron Lee each tallied sacks.

After Freer-Brown's early interception, the Big Green capitalized. Crowther ran for 21 yards over the first two plays, then three plays later, Saunier connected with O'Bara who broke tackles and found his way into the end zone from 13 yards out for a 7-0 Dartmouth lead.

The teams traded punts, but Brown got on the board late in the quarter, converting a seven-play, 69-yard drive to pull even at 7-7 with 2:55 on the first-quarter clock.

Brown turned an interception into its first lead of the game, using a short field to go 49 yards on 11 plays to take a 14-7 lead with 8:54 left in the second quarter. But it didn't take long for the Big Green to pull even. The ensuing drive saw Saunier find Ky'Dric Fisher for a huge 31-yard gain on third down. Four plays later on fourth-and-eight, Saunier scrambled out of the pocket and found Corbo just short of the end zone. The tight end made the catch and ran it in the remaining four yards for the 35-yard reception, evening the score at 14 apiece with 5:36 until halftime.

The Bears answered right back just 2:26 later, but the Big Green also responded. They methodically marched down the field, going 75 yards on 12 plays, to pull even mere seconds before the half. One big play came on third-and-12 when Saunier found Luke Rives for 16 yards. The drive ended with Saunier connecting with Fisher for 20 yards on another third down, evening the score at 21 just before halftime.

Early in the third quarter, neither team scored until Ratcliff's interception gave Dartmouth the ball on its own 46-yard line. The offense made the most of it, taking 6:14 off the clock in 11 plays and ending with a three-yard touchdown run from Craddock. The first-year finished with five carries for 21 yards on the drive, as Dartmouth led 28-24 with 4:25 left in the third quarter.

That proved to be the Big Green's final points, however, as the Bears pulled even just four plays into the fourth, finishing a seven-play, 68-yard drive with a Solomon Miller six-yard touchdown reception. Later in the quarter, a 74-yard pick-six from Brown's Alejandro Bello gave the Bears a 35-28 lead with 4:50 remaining.

On its ensuing drive, Dartmouth drove to the Brown 31-yard line, but Saunier was picked off looking for Corbo in the end zone. The Bears' offense then converted a first down to wrap up the victory.

Dartmouth finished with a 386-304 edge in total offense, including 274-222 through the air and 112-82 on the ground.

The Big Green put forth another impressive season in 2025, which included wins over two teams who were in a national poll this week — New Hampshire and Yale — along with a victory over NEC Champion Central Connecticut State.

NOTES: Grayson Saunier finished the season with 2,143 passing yards, good for eighth in program history for a single season … D.J. Crowther ended with 929 rush yards, good for seventh in program history … Grayson O'Bara and Chris Corbo each ended the season with over 500 receiving yards (590 and 516, respectively), marking the first time a Big Green duo was each over 500 since 2015 with Victor Williams (845) and Ryan McManus (598) … Ky'Dric Fisher finished Saturday with four catches for a career-high 75 yards. All four of his catches were for first downs, with three of them coming on third downs … The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak against Brown for the Big Green.
