HANOVER, N.H.-- Dartmouth swimmer Carinn Bethea and Dartmouth men's hockey player Hank Cleaves have been named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes – one male athlete or team, one female athlete or team– as Athletes of the Week.
Carinn Betha, Junior, Naples, Fla., Women's Swimming and Diving
Carinn Betha was stellar for the Big Green as they captured the Golden Grizzly Classic title hosted by Oakland University last week. As the highest-scoring person on the women's swimming and diving team, Bethea helped the Big Green beat two top-50 mid-major programs in Grand Canyon and Oakland. Bethea was event champion in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, becoming the first-ever Dartmouth woman to break the 50 second barrier from a flat start in this event. She also competed in a number of events (individually and relay) that were now good for top 10 in program history. Among those was the 800 freestyle relay, which now ranks third in the Big Green's all-time list.
Hank Cleaves, Sophomore, Riverside, Conn., Men's Hockey
Hank Cleaves was a key member of the Big Green's success against both Brown and Yale. The sophomore opened the weekend with a four-point game against Brown. He scored once while adding three assists. He finished the game with a +3 rating with four shots along with eight faceoff wins. On Saturday, against Yale he scored once while adding a pair of assists. Over the two games he had two goals, five assists, seven shots on goal, and a +6 rating. He also added 15 faceoff wins on the weekend. This season the Riverside, Conn. native has scored five goals and added nine assists. In 42 career games, he has 10 goals and 25 assists.
