HANOVER, N.H.—The Dartmouth men's hockey team advanced to the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals on Saturday night with a 6-2 win over No. 12 St. Lawrence at Thompson Arena.
Dartmouth opened the scoring just 2:45 into the game. Eric Charpentier pinched on the left point and the puck fluttered out to Nikita Nikora after a change. Nikora picked up the puck and fired a puck across the ice to Sean Chisholm. Chisholm took the pass on the right wing and ripped a wrist shot past the goalie for his 12th goal of the year. Nikora picked up his 22nd assist while it was Charpentier's fifth of the year.
Neither team scored in the remainder of the opening period as Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead to the locker room and after outshooting the Saints 14-3.
4:01 into the second period St. Lawrence tied the game at one.
Chisholm scored his second goal of the game to give Dartmouth a 2-1 lead at the 8:48 mark of the second period. Nikora broke up the St. Lawrence breakout and Hank Cleaves picked up the loose puck just inside the blueline. Cleaves fed a backhand pass to Chisholm who one timed home his 13th goal of the year. Cleaves notched his 13th assist while Nikora notched his second assist of the game and 23rd of the season.
At the 10:11 mark of the second, Dartmouth added to its lead. Cooper Flinton fed the puck back to Charpentier who took a shot from the point. The puck deflected off Luke Haymes and over the line for Haymes' 10th of the season.
With 1:02 left in the second period, St. Lawrence scored a power play goal to make it 3-2.
After two periods, Dartmouth was leading 3-2 while also outshooting the Saints 26-12.
The Big Green came out of the locker room flying and added to the lead just 2:22 into the period. Matt Fusco held the puck in on the right point and fired a shot towards the net. The puck was deflected by Hayden Stavroff and Steven Townley towards the net. Braiden Dorfman found the loose puck and buried his sixth goal of the year. Townley notched his fourth assist while Stavroff picked up his 10th.
The Saints pulled their goalie with 2:17 left and the Big Green took full advantage. Charpentier notched his third goal of the year from his own zone as M. Fusco and Cam MacDonald notched assists.
Nate Morgan scored his second goal of the year on the empty net with six seconds left in regulation. Alex Krause and Joshua Schenk notched assists on the play.
Emmett Croteau made 16 saves to earn his 11th win of the season. He is 11-4-0 this season with 2.11 goals against average and a .899 save percentage.
Charpentier became the seventh member of the Big Green to notch a three point game this season. He joins Ian Pierce as the only other defensemen this season to have three point games.
Haymes was nearly perfect in the faceoff circle as he went 25-3 in the faceoff circle. Dartmouth won 66.7 percent of faceoffs.
Chisholm scored a pair of goals for the third time this season. He has set a career high with 13 goals this season.
Nikora notched his eighth multi point game of the season.
In total, 14 different Big Green players tallied a point against St. Lawrence.
The Big Green are riding a four-game win streak, over the four games they have outscored opponents 17-6.
With the win Dartmouth moves on to the ECAC Quarterfinals to take on Union for the second straight season. The Big Green swept Union in the regular season and ended the Garnet Chargers' season in 2023-24 with a sweep at Thompson Arena.
The Big Green and Union square off in Schenectady on Friday, Mar. 14 at 7 PM to start a best of three series. Game two is slated Saturday, Mar. 15 at 4 PM while game three would be Sunday, Mar. 16 at 4 PM if necessary.
